Emily has worked with us for over two years in the HR team. She loves her team and feels lucky to be surrounded by positive, supportive role models. One value she most believes in is 'trust'; it's integral to her role, where confidentiality and building trust are paramount.
We asked Emily to share what it is like to work at TakingCare.
What's a typical day for you at TakingCare?
My typical day at TakingCare involves overseeing our recruitment process, from posting an advert all the way through to a candidate's first day with the company.
Finding a new job can be intimidating, and I enjoy ensuring our new starters have a friendly, welcoming experience with us. I am the first point of call for most HR queries, so I spend much of my day assisting my TakingCare colleagues with any questions they have. If I'm not doing that, I'm most likely collating the content of our internal communication, such as our employee magazine, or weekly news.
What do you love about your job?
Working in HR, I love being able to help my colleagues. That could be a small query with pay or holiday, or it could be someone needing advice and a compassionate ear – some of the job roles at TakingCare are really challenging, so if I can try and make any element of that more accessible, I feel like I've done a good job.
If I had to describe our workplace in one word, it would be 'welcoming'.
Emily, HR Administrator
How does your job benefit the customers?
While I don't have a customer-facing role, I feel that my role in recruitment benefits our customers. My goal is to ensure that we find the right people to look after our personal alarm using customers, who share our values and understand the importance of the life-saving work we do at TakingCare.
One of the lovely things about working here is that, even if you don't have a job that is explicitly interacting with our customers, everyone is contributing to the success of the business, and therefore, how well we are able to help the people at the other end of the alarms, which is ultimately the most important part of the job.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
The most rewarding part of my job is definitely getting to call candidates and offer them a position with our company. Starting a new job can be such an exciting experience, and getting to share that with the people who join TakingCare is really special to me.
Do you remember your first day at TakingCare?
I remember my first day really clearly – I was so nervous as I was 19 and had never worked in an office before. However, I was really struck by how kind everyone was and even though I was inexperienced, I was still made to feel like a valued member of the team and like what I had to say was just as important as everyone else. That culture has continued over the last 2 years working here.
What do you love to do aside from work?
Outside of work, I'm a big musical theatre fan and love spending time with my family. They don't live in Devon, but I love visiting whenever I can.
