At Taking Care, we have found apprenticeships are an excellent way to develop employees and the skills we need to support our customers. For our apprentices, they offer a way to develop their careers by combining studying with valuable training, so they can earn whilst they learn.
Our apprentices play an important role in our team and we’ve been working in partnership with local colleges to develop our apprenticeship programme.
To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2020, two of our recent apprentices have shared their experiences of being part of the Taking Care team.
"I have completed an apprenticeship in Business Administration and in my experience this way of learning is very beneficial and a great stepping stone for a career. I am now doing an AAT accounting apprenticeship and this will give me a strong foundation for a career in Finance."
"I have found working at Taking Care to be very supportive and open, and I always feel comfortable asking for support when I need it. I spend one day a week at college and what I learn there I can apply to work and vice-versa. I am getting valuable hands-on experience which is helping me to build a good understanding of different roles in Finance."
"I hope to become a permanent member of the Finance team and to take on more tasks and responsibility as time goes on."
Harry Meadows, Human Resources Officer
"I wanted to join the HR apprenticeship because I found that what I was doing at college was not for me. Starting an apprenticeship was a great decision. It gives me lots of day-to-day experience in the workplace and no day is the same. It’s a chance to learn about HR, and be paid at the same time. With the knowledge I am gaining from my apprenticeship, I hope to go as far as possible within the company as I progress my HR career."
"I am thoroughly enjoying my time at Taking Care. The support I have been given is great and has never left me feeling like I had no-one to talk to. We are all one team and focused on doing everything we can for each other and the alarm customers we support."
"I hope to get my CIPD level 3 qualification and then go on to the level 5 apprenticeship, which is the equivalent of going to uni. One day I would like to be Head of HR and I feel the apprenticeship is the best first step towards achieving this."
