Betty turned 93 years old this year, but her age doesn’t stop her from remaining active and living independently.
Betty has always been lively, and she celebrated her 93rd birthday with coffee at the Lancashire seaside with friends. However, she is very much aware of her age and care requirements, so her personal alarm is a source of reassurance. Betty recognises that it gives her security to remain active and independent.
A few years back, Betty had bought the personal alarm for her husband, as he was battling cancer, and she never wanted to leave him unattended at home. After he passed away in 2019, his personal alarm was passed on to Betty, who did not have any family who lived nearby.
She was coping with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), back issues and Eczema. Betty relied on friends and carers to help her with day-to-day activities.
My personal alarm provides me with reassurance - I'm 93 and don't have any family so my alarm gives me the confidence to carry on doing the things I enjoy.
Betty now uses the Taking Care personal alarm to live her life independently and to the fullest. Betty loves writing poems and compiling them into books for all her friends. After the passing of her husband, she began painting, and that’s how she spends most of her time these days.
She is currently in a wheelchair as she often loses her balance while walking, so the emergency alarm for the elderly is a lifeline in case she falls.
Betty says she does not regret anything in life, feeling thankful for everything and even though she is 93, she loves to dress up in modern attire and wear makeup.
