Transitioning from analogue to digital telecare schemes can be a significant undertaking for social and supported living providers. Taking Care’s Digital Charter has been developed to outline the parameters of our digital switchover service and how we can support you.
Wherever you are on your digital journey
Despite the challenges, analogue to digital (A2D) offers numerous benefits, such as improved efficiency, enhanced service delivery and increased resident (and employee) satisfaction.
At Taking Care we believe the A2D switchover is an opportunity to re-imagine our local authority and housing association partners service offering. We’re focused on helping them increase efficiencies and explore new and improved approaches to delivering top-quality care for their customers, while leveraging the benefits of digital technology.
The Taking Care Digital Charter has been developed to outline the parameters of this service and how we are best able to support our customers wherever they are on their digital journey.
What can Taking Care form a digital connection with?
Taking Care are on the cutting edge of digital technology in the Technology Enabled Care industry but there are always new technologies coming along that require integration. The list below is not an exhaustive list of what we can connect to, but rather a helpful guide to our most common forms of digital scheme connectivity (as of April 2025).
Appello SLS
With Appello SLS, there are two options: VPNs with SIP Accounts OR the Appello Digital Bridge. Though the Appello Digital Bridge removes the requirement for VPN tunnels and SIP accounts, and is easier for Taking Care to integrate with, the use of the Digital Bridge is likely to incur additional charges.
Legrand/Tynetec Advent – XT2 and XT with Digital Communicators
Note: Advent XT equipment might be referred to as XT1.
Taking Care can accept digital connections from the digital-ready Advent XT2 equipment. The original Advent XT equipment is equipped for analogue connectivity, though it can connect to Taking Care digitally with a Digital Communicator.
Legrand/Tynetec ‘Infinity Grouped Living.’
Taking Care are the UK’s only large monitoring site (as of March 2025) capable of handling the Legrand/Tynetec ‘Infinity Grouped Living’ solution. Taking Care have worked closely with Legrand to ensure full digital connectivity for the Infinity system.
Note: ‘Infinity Grouped Living’ has the same requirements, and timescale estimates as the Advent equipment which is also produced by Legrand/Tynetec.
TIS Sentinel SmartLINK
The TIS Sentinel SmartLINK is some of the easiest equipment for Taking Care to integrate as it makes a digital phone call without the use of VPNs or a specialised protocol. This simple set-up allows the TIS Sentinel to work on ISDN lines while they are still in place and for them to switch over to SIP when the change happens.
Everon Origon Hub
The Everon base unit, known as the Origon Hub, collates the signals from their various pieces of scheme equipment and transmits the signal to Taking Care. The base unit connects using SCAIP (Social Care Alarm Internet Protocol).
IOTComms’ Digital Bridge (iotcomms.io AlarmBridge Connect)
The iotcomms.io (AKA IOTComms) Alarmbridge Connect is a ‘digital bridge’ that facilitates the use of analogue equipment into the digital telephony future by converting analogue alarm protocols to digital ones (specifically SCAIP) that modern alarm receiving centres (ARCs) can also handle.
NCS Universal Digital Composer (UDC)
Network Communication Systems (NCS) produce a digital converter called a UDC that enables the conversion of the analogue TT92 and TTNEW protocols found in Tunstall equipment into the digital protocol BS8521-2.
Digital Dispersed Alarms
Taking Care already take calls from a broad range of dispersed alarm equipment. The manufacturers of the alarms connected to Taking Care include (but are not limited to): Legrand/Tynetec, Chiptech, Careium, essence, and Tunstall. We can connect to a number of other dispersed alarms provided they use standard industry protocols [SCAIP, SCAIP/CENELEC TSA50134-9, NOWIP/BS8521-2].
Top 7 tips for a pain free transition from analogue to digital for social housing providers.
