We are delighted to announce that we're donating £100,000 to Age UK's Emergency Coronavirus Appeal.
We speak to thousands of older people every month through our Age UK personal alarm service and wanted to support the invaluable work they are doing at this difficult time.
The coronavirus is affecting us all and lock-down is particularly difficult for the elderly and vulnerable. It is especially challenging for older adults who live alone or rely on family, neighbours and carers for support.
Age UK has launched a £10 million Emergency Coronavirus Appeal to support the elderly through the pandemic. As the provider of the Age UK personal alarm service, we are delighted to announce we are donating £100,000 to the appeal.
The donation will support Age UK's crucial work, including their information and advice services that are currently receiving an unprecedented number of calls. It will also support Age UK's other activities including their information guides, telephone befriending service and work in local communities.
Steve Gates, Managing Director at Taking Care, said "We recognise the great importance of the work Age UK are doing and wish to help them support the UK’s older population at a time when they need it the most and this charitable contribution is our way of playing our part during these very challenging times.”
The Age UK personal alarm service provides peace of mind to customers and their family and friends, even more so at a time when we cannot visit our loved ones as much as we would like.
Steve Gates said “We speak to around 30,000 older people every month who use our emergency alarms to get help, because of this we know first-hand the challenges that they are facing during the current UK lock-down. It is our aim to provide as much support to as many older people as possible during these unprecedented times.”
Laurie Boult, Fundraising Director at Age UK, said: “Thank you so much to Taking Care for their thoughtful support during this exceptionally challenging time. This is a period of great anxiety for everyone, but especially for older people and their loved ones. Age UK is determined to be there for older people who need our help and especially for those who have no one else to turn to in this time of crisis. Thank you for making sure we can respond to the growing needs and unprecedented demand we’re seeing.”
