Reliable support at the press of a button

You can press the button on your pendant or base unit at any time to call for help. Whether you feel unwell, have had a fall or need reassurance, you’ll be connected directly to our 24/7 UK Emergency Resolution Team.

GPS location support when you need it

    Speak directly through your alarm

Additional reassurance at home with base unit

When you are at home, the base unit provides an additional way to speak with the Emergency Resolution Team. This gives added reassurance without changing how you normally use your alarm.

Backup in-home pendant for added flexibility

When you are at home, the system includes a backup pendant that works with the base unit, giving you an additional way to raise an alert around the home.

This can be used as a spare or by a second person living at the same address, providing extra reassurance and flexibility.

    Works without a telephone landline

This digital GPS alarm uses a built-in mobile connection with multi-network SIMs, so it does not need a telephone line. It works in any home and is not affected by the UK’s digital switchover.

    Strong signal and reliable coverage

The GPS alarm uses multi-network SIMs and a high-performance internal antenna to connect to the strongest available signal. This helps ensure reliable performance both at home and when you are out.

Simple to use and easy to set up

The alarm is ready to use in minutes with simple, voice-guided setup. There is no need for an engineer visit, and everything is designed to be easy and reassuring to use.

The GPS pendant is lightweight and comfortable, designed to be worn around the neck so it is always easy to reach in an emergency. It can also be attached to a belt or used as a keyring.

    Water-resistant for everyday use

The GPS pendant and backup pendants are water-resistant, so they can be worn during everyday activities such as washing hands or being caught in the rain.

Long battery life with helpful alerts

The GPS pendant is designed for everyday use, with a typical battery life of 1 to 2 months and low battery notifications to help ensure it is always ready when needed.

The backup in-home pendant has a long 5-year battery life, so it can be used reliably without the need for regular charging.

    Service Information

Support for a wide range of emergencies
Woman sitting on a green couch holding Taking Care Anywhere pendant, with plants and a window in the background.

Your GPS personal alarm can be used for any situation where you need help or reassurance. This includes medical emergencies, feeling unwell, falls, injuries, or if you feel unsafe or distressed.

It can also be used in home emergencies, such as a fire, flood, burst pipe or suspected intruder. You don’t need to rely on friends or family being available, as help is always there when you need it.

This means you can live independently with confidence, knowing support is always available day and night.

    How fall detection works

The GPS fall detector may not detect every fall, as it is designed to detect hard, unobstructed falls. If you are able to do so, you must ensure that you press the button each time that you fall.

The GPS fall alarm sensor uses an algorithm to recognise the difference between ‘hard’ falls and other movements. Like many similar devices on the market, it cannot guarantee to detect all falls, as this depends on how it is worn and the level of impact from the fall.

You can learn more about how fall alarms work, including the types of falls that may trigger an alert, in our guide.

    How GPS location works

The GPS pendant is designed to work across the UK (excluding the Channel Islands) wherever there is a 3G or 4G mobile signal. It uses a mobile network to raise an alert and GPS satellite technology to help determine your location when you are out and about.

If no mobile signal is available, it can connect through the base unit when you are at home to contact the Emergency Resolution Team.

At home, the base unit connects using a multi-network 2G or 4G signal. It automatically checks its connection and will alert you if there is an issue.

Location accuracy may vary depending on factors such as buildings, signal strength, and environmental conditions. A GPS signal must be available for the pendant to determine your location.

    GPS coverage and connectivity

UK mobile networks are gradually phasing out 3G services by 2033. You don’t need to worry — your pendant and base unit automatically connect to the strongest available signal (2G or 4G), so there is no immediate impact.

As with all mobile-based devices, performance may vary depending on signal availability in your area.

Using the GPS alarm with a pacemaker

If you have a pacemaker, the GPS pendant should not be worn as a neck pendant and fall detection will need to be turned off.

Instead, you can attach the GPS pendant to the supplied split ring and use it with a belt clip or keyring. The device should be kept at least 15cm away from your pacemaker at all times.

If you have any questions or concerns, our team is happy to help.

    Reliable digital connection

The Taking Care Anywhere alarm uses a built-in mobile connection with multi-network SIMs, so it does not require a telephone landline. It is designed to work in any home and is not affected by the UK’s digital switchover.

There are no additional mobile or data charges, as everything is included in your subscription.

Many customers who struggle to get a mobile signal can still use the alarm, as the multi-network SIMs automatically connect to the strongest available network, supported by a large internal antenna in the base unit. There are no additional phone or data charges, as everything is included in your subscription.

What else you need to know

    Simple setup at home

Your alarm is designed to be easy to set up yourself. Simply plug in the base unit and follow the voice-guided instructions. There’s no need for an engineer visit or specialist installation.

    Equipment and subscription

The personal alarm equipment is provided on a rental basis as part of your subscription. This means there’s no large upfront purchase, and your service includes ongoing access to our 24/7 UK Emergency Resolution Team.

    Ongoing support and maintenance

Your subscription includes ongoing support, as well as maintenance and repairs if your equipment develops a fault. If the pendant battery needs replacing, we’ll take care of that for you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly do you answer alarm calls?

Our UK Emergency Resolution Team aims to answer alarm calls within 30 seconds, so you’re not left waiting when you need help. You’ll be connected to a trained team member who can speak with you straight away and arrange the right support.

Do I need a telephone line to use Taking Care Anywhere?

No, Taking Care Anywhere does not require a telephone landline. It uses a built-in mobile connection with multi-network SIMs, so it works independently of your home phone or broadband and is unaffected by the telephone network's Digital Switchover.

Can two people use the Taking Care Anywhere alarm?

Yes, the backup pendant can be used by a second person living at the same address if they only need a home and garden alarm.

It is primarily designed as a spare to use at home when the GPS pendant is charging, but it can provide reassurance for another person in the household.

If you plan to use the service this way, please let us know so we can make sure we have the correct details in case of an emergency.

Does the GPS pendant detect all falls?

The GPS fall detector may not detect every fall, as it is designed to detect hard, unobstructed falls.

If you are able to press the button, you should always do so to ensure help is arranged as quickly as possible.

Does the GPS personal alarm work both at home and out-and-about?

Yes, the GPS personal alarm is designed to work wherever you are, whether at home or out-and-about, as long as there is a 3G or 4G mobile signal.

When you’re outside, the GPS pendant allows you to call for help and helps our team understand your location. When you’re at home, you can also use the base unit and backup pendant for added reassurance.

    Are the pendants waterproof?

Yes, GPS pendant is water-resistant up to 1 metre for 30 minutes (IP67 standard). We would encourage you to wear the GPS pendant in the bathroom and shower where slips are most likely to occur.

The backup pendant is water-resistant up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes (IP68 standard) and can also be worn in the bathroom and shower.

What happens when I press the button on my GPS pendant?

When you press the button, an alarm call is sent to our 24/7 Emergency Resolution Team. They will speak with you through the GPS pendant or base unit to understand what help you need. If required, they can contact your emergency contacts or the emergency services to arrange assistance. Your GPS location will also be sent with the alarm call.

What happens if I can’t speak during an alarm call?

If you are unable to speak, our Emergency Resolution Team will still know who you are, your location and that you may need help.

They will follow your agreed emergency plan and arrange support, including contacting your emergency contacts or the emergency services if needed.

What happens if there is no mobile signal?

The GPS pendant uses multi-network SIMs and will connect to the strongest available mobile signal.

If a mobile signal cannot be found when you are at home, the system can use the base unit to contact the Emergency Resolution Team. As with all mobile-based devices, performance may vary depending on signal availability in your area.

Will the alarm work during a power cut?

Yes, the base unit has a backup battery that will continue to work for a period of time during a power cut.

This means you can still raise an alarm call and speak with our team if needed.

The GPS pendant has its own battery so is unaffected by a power cut.

Do I need to pay VAT?

Most customers do not need to pay VAT on their GPS alarm. You may be eligible for VAT exemption if you have a long-term medical condition, are chronically sick or are registered disabled. If you’re unsure, you can check the VAT exempt requirements before ordering.

    Further information about GPS alarms

    Understanding GPS alarms

What is the difference between Taking Care Anywhere and Taking Care GO?

Taking Care Anywhere is a complete GPS personal alarm system designed for use both at home and out and about. It includes fall detection, a base unit and a backup pendant for added reassurance.

Taking Care GO is a simpler GPS tracker-style alarm designed for use out and about only. It does not include a base unit or backup pendant and is best suited for those who only need support outside the home.

    GPS and location

How does GPS location work on a personal alarm?

The GPS personal alarm uses satellite technology to help determine your location when you are out and about.

When an alarm is raised, this information helps our Emergency Resolution Team understand where you are so they can arrange the right support more quickly.

Does the GPS pendant work anywhere in the UK?

The GPS pendant is designed to work across the UK, excluding the Channel Islands, wherever there is a 3G or 4G mobile signal available.

As with any mobile-based device, performance may vary depending on signal strength, location and environmental conditions.

Does the GPS pendant track my location at all times?

No, the GPS personal alarm does not continuously track your location.

Location information is sent when an alarm is raised, so our team can help locate you and arrange support if needed.

What happens if the GPS pendant cannot connect to a mobile signal at home?

The GPS pendant uses multi-network SIMs to connect to the strongest available signal.

If a mobile signal cannot be found when you are at home, the system can use the base unit to contact the Emergency Resolution Team instead.

    GPS and fall detection

Does the GPS pendant detect all falls?

The GPS fall detector may not detect every fall, as it is designed to detect hard, unobstructed falls.

Detection can depend on how the pendant is worn and the type of fall. If you are able to press the button, you should always do so.

What happens if a fall is not detected?

If a fall is not detected automatically, you can still press the button on your GPS pendant to raise an alarm.

This ensures you can always call for help, even if automatic fall detection is not triggered.

GPS devices and how they work

What is the difference between the GPS pendant and the backup pendant?

The GPS pendant is the main device and is designed to be worn when you are at home and out and about, allowing you to call for help and helping our team understand your location.

The backup pendant works with the base unit and is designed for use at home only. It can be worn when the GPS pendant is charging and provides an additional way to raise an alert when you are indoors.

Does the backup pendant work in the garden?

Yes, the backup pendant will work up to 300 metres / 984 ft from the base unit, typically covering your home and garden.

During setup, you can test the range to ensure it works in the areas where you spend time.

When should I use the backup pendant?

The backup pendant is designed for use at home, particularly when your GPS pendant is charging or not being worn.

It provides a simple and reliable way to raise an alert around the home and garden.

Does the backup pendant have a speaker and microphone?

No, the backup pendant does not include a speaker or microphone.

When using the backup pendant, you will speak with the Emergency Resolution Team through the base unit.

Does the backup pendant detect falls?

No, the backup pendant does not include fall detection. It is designed as a simple in-home alarm that allows you to press the button to call for help.

Should I wear both pendants at the same time?

No, this is not necessary. The GPS pendant is designed to be worn when at home and when you are out and about, while the backup pendant is intended for use at home if your GPS pendant is being charged.

What is the alarm base unit for?

The base unit connects you to the Emergency Resolution Team when you are at home and allows hands-free communication through its built-in speaker and microphone.

It also supports the backup pendant and provides an additional layer of reassurance.

    Battery and charging

How long does the GPS pendant battery last?

The GPS pendant typically lasts 1 to 2 months between charges, depending on usage. It also provides low battery notifications to help ensure it is always ready when needed.

How do I charge the GPS pendant?

The GPS pendant is supplied with a charging cable and is easy to recharge at home. Simply place it on the USB charger for three to five hours.

You will be notified when the battery is low, so you can charge it in good time.

How long does the battery in the backup pendant last?

The backup pendant has a long 5-year battery life and does not need to be recharged.

If the battery needs replacing, we will arrange this as part of your service.

    Suitability and safety

Can I wear the GPS pendant if I have a pacemaker?

If you have a pacemaker, the GPS pendant should not be worn as a neck pendant and fall detection will need to be turned off.

Instead, you can attach the GPS pendant to a belt clip or keyring and keep it at least 15cm away from your pacemaker at all times.

If you have any questions, our team is happy to help.

Are the GPS and backup pendants water-resistant?

Yes, both the GPS pendant and backup pendant are water-resistant and can be worn during everyday activities such as washing hands or being caught in the rain.

They are not designed to be fully submerged for extended periods.

    Setup and getting started

What do I need to set up Taking Care Anywhere?

Everything you need is included with your alarm. You will just need a mains electricity socket for the base unit. You may need to bend down to plug in the power.

For the best support, we recommend providing details of your emergency contacts, any key safe you have and relevant medical information.

    Subscription and payments

What does the set-up cost include?

The set-up cost covers creating your account and registering you as a customer. You will set up the alarm yourself using the included instructions.

It does not include an engineer visit, as the system is designed to be simple to install.
